Transitioning from Dairy Farmer to HR Professional, I could not help but notice the similarities in the way I handled cattle as a farmer, to the way I was expected to manage people in Human Resources. Why did I even bother changing gumboots and overalls for blazers and brogues.
After years in a variety of industries I have heard a lot of feedback about who I am as a HR Professional, but when it comes down to it the only thing I am, is Human. That is when I realized, we have lost the Humanity in Human Resources, we see people as risks, liabilities or sometimes assets…not mums, dad’s, children, aunts, friends. That’s when I changed my approach.
Approach the person, not the problem. Lets put the Humanity back in HR.
